Succession in Triengen: How MTT Physiotherapie Surental came to SPP

You have built up your practice. Formed a team that sticks together. Made a name for yourself in the region. And now you're asking yourself: What will happen after me? Many practice owners in Switzerland are currently asking themselves this question.

Many practices will be faced with the issue of succession in the coming years. At the same time, the pressure is growing due to a shortage of specialists, increasing administrative burdens and changing requirements from patients and health insurance companies.

MTT Physiotherapie Surental in Triengen took this step and deliberately organised it. Here is their story.

A practice that lives movement

MTT stands for Medical Training Therapy. And the name says it all. In Triengen, in the centre of the canton of Lucerne, movement is not a method. It is an attitude. Patients are actively involved in their therapy and take joint responsibility for sustainable healing. In practice, this requires a spacious training area, well thought-out equipment - and above all a team that truly lives this philosophy.

This is exactly what MTT Physiotherapie Surental has built up: sports physiotherapy, orthopaedics, neurology, Pilates, group training. The practice has also been supporting the first team of FC Triengen since 2009: A sign of how deeply rooted it is in the region. The practice has also been supporting SUPSI students since 1995, which emphasises its profile as a training location.

What characterises the practice? «Noticeable positivity and optimism in the team,» says owner Ard Van Duuren. «Sporty, active, friendly, relaxed. And still highly professional.» There is a familiar atmosphere among the patients that is rarely found in such a pronounced form.

Why a successor solution was the right decision

The decision on succession is rarely easy. Anyone who has built up a practice is attached to it. For Ard Van Duuren of MTT Physiotherapie Surental, one thing was clear: it wasn't just about his own future. It's about the team that has grown together over the years. And about the patients who depend on continuity in their care.

«It was important to me to put my employees in good hands. And that we find solutions that simplify processes because someone thinks along with me,» says Ard Van Duuren. This gets to the heart of what drives many practice owners when they think about succession. It's not about quitting. It's about handing over responsibility. To someone who can really take it on. As the owner, he will now remain active in the practice for another two to three years. The transition is planned and will be accompanied.

Why SPP was chosen

There are many options for a successor. Why SPP? «I was immediately convinced by SPP's vision. And the concept and the people behind it have been steadily confirmed over time.» What he means by this is that the experts behind SPP think for themselves. The central team takes on tasks that often take up time in an individual practice that should actually belong to therapy. Recruiting, digitalisation, training concepts - these are precisely the topics that MTT Physiotherapie Surental will be tackling together with SPP over the next few years.

The decisive moment for him? Ard Van Duuren thinks: «That the succession is secured. That the company is in good hands. Security for the employees, continuity for the patients, care for the region.»

Each practice that becomes part of the SPP network brings its own strength and identity. MTT Physiotherapie Surental enriches the network with a combination that is not often found: diverse therapeutic expertise, strong regional roots and a high level of professionalism in recording findings and documentation. In addition, there is specific expertise in sports physiotherapy, many years of experience in supporting students and a clear contribution in the area of further training.

What characterises the practice remains. The location remains. The team remains. What has changed: The practice now has a tailwind.

Succession is not an end, it is a new beginning

Many practice owners put off the question of succession. Too early, too delicate, too many unresolved issues.

But if you wait too long, you lose options. The history of MTT Physiotherapie Surental shows that a good succession can be planned. It needs the right partners, a clear plan and the courage to act in good time.
